Heather Callahan: Reading Programs

The 100 Book Club, AR, and Book-It

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” -Dr. Seuss

The 100 Book Club and Book-It are two very exciting reading programs which are designed to make your child excited about reading.

The 100 Book Club!

The 100 book club is a school wide reading program designed to encourage all of our students at Charlotte Lappla to read.

For every 10 books your child reads, they will get a bubblegum on their bubblegum chart.

For every 100 books (or 10 bubble gums) your child reads, he/she will be inducted into the 100 book club (there is also a 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900, and 1,000 book club). The 100 book club is the goal, but your child can also strive towards the bigger goals.

We will have a 100 book club celebration at the end of the year!!!

Accelerated Reader (AR)

AR is a reading program that provides practice with reading and answering comprehension questions on the computer at school. The level will be found on the side of your child’s book and the color codes are below. Your child will work through the color codes (levels) in order to practice reading and taking quizzes. In kindergarten and first grade, students use AR as a practice before Don Gill.

Pizza Hut’s Book-It Program!

Book-It is a reading program which rewards your child for reading every night. I ask for 15 minutes a night and since this works with the 100 Book Club, it just makes sense to participate in this program (Who doesn’t love to receive a free pizza?).
