Irene Appel: Response to Intervention

  • We will be utilizing the Recipe for Reading intervention strategies in our classroom as well as Systematic Sequential Phonics.
  • Your child may relate to you that they are going to another room for a brief portion of their day.
  • These groupings are meant to be flexible groups – meaning they may be changing groups from time to time based on the needs of the individual student.
  • The skills addressed in Recipe for Reading are as follows:
    • consonant sounds
    • >digraphs
    • consonant blends
    • dipthongs
    • spelling rules
    • short vowels
    • long vowels
    • inflectional endings
    • suffixes
  • Systematic Sequential Phonics includes lessons that teach all of the common phonics patterns in the traditionally accepted sequence.  It allows teachers to porvide hands-on activities in which children discover how words work.
