English as a Second Language (ESL)

The Wellsboro Area School District has a program of instruction designed to teach children of limited English proficiency. This program includes social and academic skills, as well as a teacher who assists the student on an individual basis when needed. Our program is available for grades K-12. It is aligned with the Pennsylvania standards. The program is based toward the level of the student. Assessment is done and goals are set for each student through an individual plan. The process steps are: Enrolling the student, providing a Home Language Survey, Assessment, Instruction, Communication with teachers, student and parents, and Evaluation. All of our ELL students are encouraged to participate in all aspects of the academic and extracurricular activities.

The ESL program at the Wellsboro Area School District ensures that every student will be provided an education and no child shall be left behind. Our goals for the district include second language acquisition and respect for culture. They shall be accurately assessed for their level of English Language understanding and be provided a curriculum of literacy with content appropriate to their level of understanding. Integration in the age appropriate grade level will be our main focus.
