Helpful Hints for a Successful School Year!

Here is some information that will be helpful concerning procedures and special events in our classroom.

 

School Supplies: All supplies are provided but you may wish to purchase a glue stick and extra pencils as supplies are limited midyear.

Dismissal: A note  or phone call  is needed for your child if after school plans are different from the normal routine.  Please do not email or text my phone. I am teaching until the end of the day and do not see these messages.

Absences: Please send in a note the day your child returns to school explaining the absence. Students must have a note every time they come to school late.

Homework:  Your child will have an AR book to read, a math assignment and spelling words.  Most work for science and social studies will be done in class, but occasionally an assignment will be given.

The blue core words sheet in the student folder is a useful tool to practice spelling words.

Accelerated Reading (AR): Students will take a Star test in computer class. A reading range will be determined  from the results of the test. Students will choose a book in their level after reading it two times, unless it is a chapter book. Then take a quiz on the book that evaluates their comprehension of the story. They will receive a cumulative grade from all of the comprehension quiz scores received for the marking period. Each marking period students receive a reward for reaching their goal!

Study Island: Every student will have a username and password. Students are encouraged to use Study Island at home.  We will go to the computer lab once a week to do Study Island.

Scholastic Book Orders: This is a great opportunity to purchase books for your children or as gifts at a great price.  Please make checks payable to Scholastic Book Club. Every time an order is placed on-line the class will receive a book for the classroom library.
