As part of RtII, districts must use a universal assessment to measure students’ progress throughout the school year. Wellsboro Area School District utilizes the AIMSWEB universal assessment program. AIMSWEB allows all students in grades Kindergarten through eighth grade to be assessed three times per year (September, January and May) on the following areas:
Grade Level Areas Measured
Kindergarten Early Literacy Letter Naming Fluency
Letter Sound Fluency
Phonemic Segmentation Fluency
Nonsense Word Fluency
Early Numeracy Oral Counting
Number Identification
Quantity Discrimination
Missing Number
First Grade Early Literacy and Early Numeracy as outlined above
Reading Fluency
Second through Eighth Grades Reading Fluency
MAZE – Reading Comprehension

The scores from these benchmark assessments are then used by the teachers to group the students for the RtII intervention groups.
AIMSWEB also allows teachers to progress monitor students’ progress more frequently than three times per year by using their progress monitoring tools.
