Hello! My name is Tina Colton and I have been teaching fifth grade at Rock L. Butler Middle School since the spring of 1993. I truly enjoy this age level and all they bring to their learning and to our school environment. There is such a dramatic change in these 10- and 11-year olds throughout the school year. It is exciting to watch them grow and develop into independent learners as they take on more personal responsibility.
I earned my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education at a Christian Liberal Arts School entitled Asbury College which is outside of Lexington, KY. After substitute teaching for two years I was hired by Wellsboro Area School District. After my first year of teaching I went on to start and then complete a Master’s Degree in Education from Mansfield University where I also earned a Reading Specialist’s Degree.
I am a wife and have two children. I am an active church member, lover of reading, and enjoy movies. My family enjoys camping and being outdoors. We spend a great deal of time with our extended family and travel quite a bit.
I am an advocate of communication. I enjoy working with children but would like to stress how important it is that parents maintain involvement in our daily activities and write, call, or email me with any questions and/or concerns you may have throughout the year. I would appreciate being informed as soon as possible so we can address those, create a plan together that addresses those questions and/or concerns, and be able to move forward together to maintain an encouraging and successful learning atmosphere.
