Hi, everyone!

Wellsboro Area School District will be continuing the Odyssey of the Mind program for the 2022-2023 school year. This year, we are hoping to send teams from the elementary schools, middle school, and high school. On Wednesday, October 26th at 6:30 p.m., we will be having a Parent & Student Information Meeting at the auditorium in the administration building to discuss the Odyssey of the Mind program. We will distribute application forms at this meeting. Any student who is interested in participating should attend and bring a parent or guardian to the meeting. At this meeting, we will discuss the requirements of the Odyssey of the Mind program and how students and parents can participate.

What is Odyssey of the Mind?

As described by the Odyssey of the Mind Association, “Odyssey of the Mind is a creative problem-solving competition for students of all ages. Kids select a problem, create a solution, and then bring their solution to competition against other teams in their age category. Students work in teams of up to seven members under the guidance of a coach. Teams create solutions to long-term problems over a period of months. Teams come up with all the ideas and do all the work on their solutions themselves.”

 Participation

Participation in the Wellsboro Area School District Odyssey program is open to students in grades K-12. Students who are interested will need to be able to make a long-term commitment to the team. Teams will begin to practice within the next couple of weeks and will meet once or twice per week until just before the Regional Competition date. As the Regional Competition date approaches, teams may meet more than twice a week with some meetings on weekends. If your team advances to the State Competition or World Finals, your team will continue to practice on a regular basis until the competition. Each team will need to find adults with current clearances to coach their team and judge at the competition.
