We’re excited to share that communication boards have been installed on our Don Gill and Charlotte Lappla Elementary School playgrounds! These boards provide visual communication support, helping students express their wants, needs, ideas, and feelings while playing and connecting with peers. Whether a student communicates through speech, gestures, pictures, or a communication device, these boards help to remove communication barriers and support inclusion and belonging.
We will be running a school security drill at Wellsboro High School on Friday, Sept 18th. This is also a professional development day, and no students will be present. The drill is in conjunction with police and EMS and will last most of the morning. During the drill, visitors will not be allowed to enter the building. Thank you to Mansfield University Police Academy, NPRC, Wellsboro PD, Tioga County EMS, Clearview Asset Protection, and Wellsboro Ambulance for partnering to make this happen!
Miss Lancaster’s 3rd Grade class used Play-Doh to create arrays that matched multiplication equations. They then recorded their equations into their math workbooks. By organizing objects into rows and columns, students can clearly see the relationship between the factors and the product.
Arrays also help students understand strategies such as counting equal groups, repeated addition, skip-counting, and will help them use the properties of multiplication moving forward.
4th grade students learned about and honored the heroes of 9/11 today. Then, they wrote and delivered cards to thank some of the heroes in our community.
This morning, our upper-level French students connected with English learners in France for a fun mystery-location challenge. Using Google Maps, our students asked yes/no questions to narrow down the location of their new friends’ classroom, while the French students worked hard to locate Wellsboro, PA on their maps. Once they asked if we were “near the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon”, we knew they’d be sure to find us with their next question. Eventually we also located them in Saint Pierre sur Dives, a small town in the Normandy region.
Though an ocean separates these two classrooms, language, curiosity, and technology are bringing them closer together. The classes plan to meet monthly via Google Meet to continue sharing cultures. Who knew a classroom could stretch all the way across the Atlantic?

🇺🇸 We Remember 9/11 🇺🇸
Today, our 6th-grade students took time to learn, reflect, and remember.
Students conducted interviews with family members about their memories and experiences surrounding September 11, 2001. They then shared their responses with classmates and discussed the importance of remembering the victims, their families, and the first responders who demonstrated incredible courage and service.
Students also learned about the observances taking place today in New York City, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C.
Through conversations with family and classroom discussions, our students are helping to ensure that the stories and significance of 9/11 are remembered by a new generation.

Nutrition Inc. got some support husking corn from some of our ag hornets! This contributed to fresh sweet corn or Mexican street corn, all locally grown at Pag o Mars as one of our lunch options!

Learning in Miss Williams’ class! Kindergarteners are practicing numbers on whiteboards and drawing pictures that begin with letter sounds!
Here's a few scenes from the library! Last week our Kindergarteners enjoyed their first book checkout of the year and our 2nd graders investigated a crime scene of damaged books to learn about proper book care! 📚
Third graders in Miss Lancaster’s class used Play-Doh and LEGO blocks to model and skip count objects in equal groups to find how many there are. Students built groups such as 3 groups of 6 and connected their models to the equation 3 × 6 = 18.
This hands-on activity helped students see what multiplication actually looks like and builds understanding of multiplication beyond simply memorizing facts!
Second Grade is studying the life cycle of insects. We came back to a surprise from the weekend and we were able to release several Monarchs.
The high school art room is in full swing! This past week Oil painting students were experimenting with various painting techniques, Ceramics 1 learned about double pinch pots and Drawing and painting was focusing on contour drawings.
